The Road #8 – It’s Never Too Late To Change Your Path
The journey only ends when you arrive at your destination.
For the last few years, one of - if not the - my main goals has been to become a better person, my strategy to achieve this goal (although I know I will have to work on it until the last day of my life) has been to gain new ( and good) habits and remove those that in any way harm me. After having read several personal development books such as Atomic Habits, The Productivity Project, and Hyperfocus, among others, I have been in a constant struggle to gain, one that is the most essential superpower to maintain a habit, SELF-DISCIPLINE, responsible for maintaining consistency in repeating each habit and thus make it part of my daily routine. Unfortunately, after a few days of repetition, I always end up stopping due to some unforeseen event, or because of procrastination. Once stopped, it becomes increasingly difficult to go back and recover the routine.
However, in the last few days, I have been dedicated solely and exclusively to improving my self-discipline. For this, I am practicing some actions that make this process much easier, such as:
Prioritize the essentials (sleep, food, and physical condition)
Training my resistance to discomfort (waking up every day at 7:30, regardless of what time I go to sleep)
Meditate (improve my ability to focus)
Create a reminder and commit to my goals (remind me every day of who I want to become)
Get rid of distractions (remove cell phone and PS5 from my workplace)
Changing my identity (no longer identifying myself as a procrastinator)
These simple actions have been very useful in this journey of becoming a disciplined person and helped me to create new habits. If you are facing the same difficulties or have given up on improving your life, know that it is never too late to be a better person.
